World Oceans Day Celebration with David Suzuki Foundation

Join an online celebration. We invite you join us at noon Pacific time on WorldOceans Day (Tuesday, June 8) to celebrate southern resident orcas through story, song and science.
The event will open with a live performance of "Yéw̓yews," the “Orca Song,” by Foundation friend and world-renowned Chinook SongCatchers founder Latash Maurice Nahanee.
Sit back for an hour to enjoy a live reading from Orca Chief by Roy Henry Vickers, followed by a conversation about the amazing Salish Sea orcas.

SPECIAL LAUNCH EVENT! Join author Lynda V. Mapes and special guests for a conversation about the history and the future of Orca whales in Puget Sound. Registration required.

The virtual launch will feature Lynda and three eminent guests deeply attuned to the southern resident orcas, their past, their present and their future: Jay Julius, lifelong fisherman and former chairman of the Lummi Nation; Deborah Giles, research director of Wild Orca, and Jason Colby, environmental historian and chairman of the history department at the University of Victoria. The launch event will be moderated by Seattle broadcast journalist Jeff Renner, who personally met his first orca face-to-face through a scuba mask years ago.
The event is presented in partnership with Elliott Bay Book Company, Mountaineers Books and The Seattle Times. This event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation. This event will be recorded for SPL’s YouTube Channel.
